The first sign is that you can smell your sewer more than you normally would. Your sewer line should be airtight in all places except for the vent stacks. Therefore, if you have a major odor around your property, then there is a good chance that you need to replace your sewer line. This is because there is probably a clog or crack somewhere inside of the sewer line.

Backup

The second sign is if you are experiencing a backup or blockage of your sewage. This means that there is a problem with the drain. Therefore, if you see that there is water backing up every time you flush the toilet or use the sink inside of the bathroom, then you will know that there is trouble.

This is especially true if the backups are happening on a regular basis. If you have tried to clean the line and it failed, then it is a good idea to contact a plumber so that they can do a sewer inspection for you.
